Reminded me of Heroes, where a character says he's going to post a video on Youtube and make a million bucks, to which another character replies "Youtube's free, you idiot." Sigh... simpler times.

A good opportunity to talk about my book! Title: Life After Dusk Genre: SF/Fantasy Word Count: Around 70,000 Funniest moment: See pic.

“Did I hear you right? You think that wolf could grow even bigger?”
The prosecutor fidgeted and mumbled an affirmative.
“And the snake?” Donner’s voice was shaking. “Over a hundred feet long, you say? Maybe even bigger? And it spits venom?”
He looked up at Grim. His right hand rested on the head of the Grinder at his belt, his fingers caressing the cold metal with a loving touch that bordered on obscene. He even licked his lips. I knew what he was going to say even before he opened his mouth.
“Can I fight them?”
Grim sighed so hard I could almost feel the rush of air from where I sat.
“Why do you have to be like this?”

“But I believe there must be other lands beyond the sea,” Oda said, gazing at the endless blue. “How come?” Mako asked. “Observe the birds,” he replied, pointing upward. #WIPSnips

This one goes to Donner, no contest. In addition to his heritage (spoilers?), his body is augmented with synthetic muscle fibers and cybernetic implants, making him a walking tank with severe anger management issues. He'd shrug off a shotgun blast, let alone a punch. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

(vibes) She longed to hear Mitsu speak her name, to rest her head in Mitsu’s lap and smell her perfume. But whenever she wandered into such pleasant gardens of the imagination, memories from the beach interfered, tainting the soil of her mind and twisting her thoughts into yet more agony. #WIPSnips

Pretty good! I had takeout, so I didn't get the full experience, but the chicken was tasty.

Shiori tore her hands off and shoved her away. Mako tumbled to the floor, banging her head against the musty straw mats. “Get a hold of yourself, potato girl,” Shiori said. “I’ve got enough on my hands dealing with one overgrown baby. Don’t make it two.” #WIPSnips

My stance on LLMs and GenAI: I hate them. I will not willingly use GenAI. Period. Full Stop. I will not knowingly promote your stuff if it uses GenAI. Period. Full Stop. I expect that a number of apps I use incorporate GenAI in some way. It's becoming inescapable. I will do my best anyway.

That strange mood when you push the button on the vending machine and the tinny voice of Joan Baez starts singing at you from somewhere inside.

Overall, a solid book with a good message about empathy (something the world could use a bit more of these days, if you ask me).

The setting, in which people were extra sensitive to ultraviolet light and couldn't go outside during the day, wasn't as developed as I'd hoped, but I can respect the decision to keep the story focused on Ran's personal development rather than the world at large.

I quite enjoyed this one. Ran was a well-written character with some rather relatable flaws and a satisfying arc. Without spoiling too much, the parallel world essentially acts as a morality lesson to teach her to be a better person, when the girl she bullied back home now bullies her instead.

Frightened at first, she quickly embraces her new environment, thankful for the break from her stressful life at home. But when she arrives at this world's version of her school, her real troubles begin...

He turned the weapon sideways and pulled back a movable part on its underside. It made a clacking sound. A hatch opened in its side, ejecting a small, red tube capped with metal. Oda repeated the action, ejecting five more of the little tubes before the weapon was empty. #WIPSnips

I can't believe I slept on Valkyrie Elysium until now. The game is great! The combat scratches that Kingdom Hearts itch in a way no other game has since... well, Kingdom Hearts.

“Shaka spare me.” Shiori rolled her eyes. “Listen, I’m feeling generous right now, so I’ll tell you. The six coins are payment for the ferry across the Three-World River. The one your soul must cross to reach the Land of Light, you know? Did they teach you anything out in that shithole?" #WIPSnips

It took a great effort to look away from Oda’s empty eyes. Compared with that void, the bandit’s frightened face looked almost reassuring in its humanity. His cheeks had turned the color of ash, and his breathing was more rapid than ever, though his tears had run dry. #WIPSnips

“I know,” Mako said, returning the embrace. She stroked Shiori’s hair. Even though it was matted with sweat and dirt, it felt soothing to touch. “I wandered around for a while, looking for you,” Shiori said. “I didn’t dare to call out in case the beast heard me.” #WIPSnips
