#Hoboken has insightful data from our Curb Study report, showing a less pronounced but similar condition on our streets. Although 80% of households don’t drive to work, almost all of our public street space is used for storing cars that are used 1-2x per week.

The data show clear signs of a street that is functioning at a higher capacity, serving more people, and reducing dangerous activity along a busy pedestrian corridor. Discontinuing enforcement of our laws without a comparable replacement would be a disservice to our community.

Prior to implementation, the city conducted monitoring at intersections along Washington and found constant blocking of bike lanes, clogged bus stops, and overstayed loading zones. The success of CLEAR has been immediate and impactful.

CLEAR by the numbers: - Bus, bike lane, and double-parking violations have decreased by more than 68 percent

- Freight vehicle use of loading zones had increased 98 percent

- Turnover in loading zones is also up 9 percent, allowing approximately 2,300 more vehicles per week to access loading zones during the same time period.

- Parking activity and turnover have increased during the pilot period compared to this time last year.

- From the beginning of October through Nov. 15, the number of paid parking transactions increased by 4 percent and average turnover increased by 7 percent

Preliminary data has proven CLEAR to be effective at keeping Washington Street safe and productive. The pilot should be extended until #Hoboken has a suitable replacement for enforcing parking violations.

We spoke in support of this initiative when it was first considered in March. Any increase to the ToO will take time to show results, as HPD is currently operating below its allowable staffing levels and new officers need to be trained. However, this is a necessary step forward.
