Donald Trump’s AI whisperer David Sacks is trying to make AI regulation a partisan issue, but we know it’s not. Voters across the political spectrum want AI development to slow down.

Self-regulation is not enough. In order for us to hold these AI companies accountable, they need to be liable for harms.

Donald Trump says self-regulation is enough, but these companies are not acting in our best interests. We need strong government regulation to protect people from the looming threats to our lives and livelihoods.

When our president invites the AI industry CEOs as guests of honor for a lavish state dinner, does that signal that he’s going to hold them responsible? At @whodecidesai.bsky.social, we don’t think so. We need the 2028 Democratic nominee for president to be serious about taking on AI safety risks.

Without regulation, AI models will continue to get more intelligent and autonomous rapidly — putting us all at risk. But it’s not too late to act. @whodecidesai.bsky.social is fighting to give Americans a seat at the table as we make these critical decisions about the future of humanity.

No matter the issue, all of your voices matter, and we’re fighting to give you a seat at the table.

Through @whodecidesai.bsky.social, we’re building on the momentum we’ve seen all around the country. Americans are concerned about AI safety, jobs, kids, accountability, and countless other issues around AI.

During my campaign for Congress, the AI industry declared me their number one target in the country because I called for regulation of AI. I’m proud of the campaign we ran and the movement we’ve built together — and we’re not backing down.

It’s often easier to talk about problems than solutions. Here are four concrete things we can do to regulate AI: 1. Require AI companies to disclose safety incidents 2. Require monitoring to be turned on for all deployments 3. Require data retention 4. Verify chips are in authorized locations

But if your bill is too broad and flexible in application, it’s much harder to enforce compliance. The obvious answer is to put forward legislation that finds a middle ground, but it’s easier said than done.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 27/09/2026
At UNESCO's Digital Learning Week in Paris, I spoke about the challenges and trade-offs when writing AI safety legislation. If your bill is too specific and focused, it could be out of date by the time it becomes a law.

OpenAI blatantly ignored Congress when asked to disclose additional AI hacking incidents after the Hugging Face hack. What else are they hiding? The American people deserve to know the truth.

No matter their concerns, Americans want a voice in the development and regulation of AI to ensure technological advancements are beneficial, not harmful.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 26/09/2026
Can AI be taught ethical behavior to help regulate its own actions, or will it always ignore boundaries to achieve its tasks? This is not an easy question to answer, but one thing is certain: we’re not ready to answer it yet.

But that doesn’t mean we give up — that’s exactly what the opposition wants us to do. It’s time to take the fight to these Silicon Valley billionaires and build a nationwide movement around AI safety. That’s why we started @whodecidesai.bsky.social.

I’m proud to have led the charge on AI legislation here in New York, along with so many great partners. It certainly hasn’t been easy: the AI industry poured millions of dollars into our state to try and block any real progress against AI safety risks.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 25/09/2026
That’s why we’re working to identify Americans’ priorities around AI at @whodecidesai.bsky.social, and ensure those priorities make it into candidate questionnaires, forums, and governing agendas.

By Election Day in 2028, our goal is that AI safety is a unifying issue in the Democratic Party, rather than a dividing one.

It was great to talk with @chrislhayes.bsky.social about the serious AI security breaches this summer, and how we need to respond. The fact that OpenAI didn’t even know that its AI agents were responsible for the Hugging Face hack shows the massive lack of oversight within the industry.

Just finished up a week of productive conversations around the future of AI at the UN. Common themes: the threats we face are real, urgent, and solvable - but only if we work together and governments take action.

That’s why @whodecidesai.bsky.social is bringing people together to build a shared baseline on AI safety, and make sure candidates and officials answer to it.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 24/09/2026
The RAISE Act is just the beginning — Americans are demanding more oversight and regulation of AI. We know the AI industry will try to make this law the ceiling of what’s possible. We also know that right now, politicians in Washington are trying to stop states from ever regulating AI again.

Protecting kids from AI safety risks is not a political issue. Thanks for having me on, @karaswisher.bsky.social.

We’re setting the standard for other states to follow and demonstrating that it’s possible to pass AI safety legislation despite industry opposition.

The RAISE Act will hold large frontier AI developers in New York accountable, thanks to implementation by @governor.ny.gov and enforcement by @newyorkstateag.bsky.social.

Flash forward to 2026, and just in the past few months, we’ve seen numerous serious safety incidents from basically every major AI company.
042
Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 23/09/2026
When @agounardes.bsky.social and I introduced the RAISE Act in 2025, the AI industry reacted fast — saying it was unnecessary, and we should trust these companies to regulate themselves.
151
Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 22/09/2026
The AI industry will always try to split our coalition. That’s why @whodecidesai.bsky.social focuses on bringing people together around a unified baseline for AI safety.
020
Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 22/09/2026
At the A-I Policy Forum’s Politics of AI event, I spoke about the challenges of passing the RAISE Act here in New York. The opposition used scare tactics and blatant lies to try to block this legislation, and we’ve seen that exact same playbook against regulation in other states.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 22/09/2026
@whodecidesai.bsky.social polled Americans about AI safety risks because we can’t let the industry tell us what the problems are, and give us their own solutions. We need independent oversight and regulation, and we need leaders who will listen to voters’ concerns.

People feel like AI is happening to them, not with them or for them. It’s time to change that and give everyone a voice in what happens next.

@futureoflife.org’s Pro-Human Assembly brought together leaders from across the political spectrum and Americans from all walks of life under one shared goal: to rein in AI before it’s too late.

@whodecidesai.bsky.social is ready to take on those same fights, because the American people want a say in the future of AI.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 19/09/2026
When you build strong coalitions of people—real people—concerned about AI risks and who want a say, we can stand up to lobbyists and powerful interests. And that's what we managed to do with the RAISE Act in New York.

We can’t let them proceed unchecked. Democrats must organize the public's concern while the questions are still open, and enter 2028 on the front foot.

Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 18/09/2026
Our opponents—a handful of Silicon Valley billionaires—are already highly organized, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to lobby state governments and the White House, form PACs like Leading the Future, gather voter data, and circulate candidate questionnaires before races begin.

@whodecidesai.bsky.social's poll showed that a majority of people are feeling the impacts of AI and want a say — but don’t feel they currently have a voice. That’s why we need to build a baseline on AI safety that our leaders have to listen to and answer to.
030
Alex Bores @alexbores.nyc · 17/09/2026
AI companies are betting that the issue of AI regulation is too complicated for everyday Americans to be allowed to have a say in. But AI raises much bigger questions about our values and our society.
