A #WIP of a mesoamerican tlaloc offering vessel in blender. I took a low quality scan and painstakenly recreated every detail as physical #3d geometry. This took a whole day to get every part of it perfect, and unlike the original artifact its not drooping to one side. #blender #history

#blender #3d #animation #rigging tip: Muscle bones 1 bone parented to the shoulder 1 to the arm. NonDeformation. Create deform bone on shoulder snapped to both. Then add these modifiers. For Rigify set the pin bons to MCH-Name and deformation bone to DEF-Name. Now shoulder deforms better.

I looked at humble bundle looking for more #3d asset bundles and saw this. Its a lot of tutorials about using ChatGPT and it has a tutorial on "vibe based" #gamedev. Is this really a tutorial on Vibe #coding? I am in tears lol. The comments say the courses are AI generated too. #programming

#3d #art secret for texturing Using only a normal map, you can mix together curvature maps to get a gradient you can use as a base for a new color map. The 2nd path is designer specific to add more color variation by shape. This can work in things like #blender too.

I was cleaning up my substance designer nodes when I decided to make a fully dynamic base pattern for a parquet floor that simulates light. Why did i put this much effort into a floor pattern most people think is ugly? I dont know. No one was there to stop me I guess.

While working on a #furry #3d character for another artist this character had a chain piercing, so I made a #blender #geonode set up for pseudo physics! Its not as good as I hoped it would be however since they are very limited, true physics nodes cant come soon enough.

I originally intended there to be actual fire on the #3D animation, but adding this was a huge tax on my machine. Between the volume adding 7 hours render time in Blender, it also made my GPU run out of VRAM with the water physics. I learned very hard that VFX was not "easy" compared to modelling

The thing people didn't see in the original #3D animation was the mixtec man, based off what depictions of mixtec soldiers I could find. Based off facial features of Oaxaca, I tried a muralist approach and failed to achieve that. Maybe one day I can do the art style justice.

I found this old #3D #WIP of the #aztec yahui of #Mixtec tradition. The creature uses real mixtec glyphs for the chestpiece and has an animated glow on the scales and glyph. The creature itself might not even be a creature, but a priest channeling a nagual of it during battle.

A mixtec yahui, a turtle-like fire serpent that looks like Gamura from Godzilla.

The X 94 is one of my first major #3D #art projects, and I went back to apply what I learned since I made it months ago. The original had 11 (!) 1K high resolution textures to give the entire gun texture. Now its just 1 1K texture. UVs redone, corners beveled. Its a brand new gun.

This is why you should be very careful when talking about non-western philosophy and religion. There is a history of scholars saying people outside of europe were not capable of philosophy and rationality and treating them like its not worth knowing. Source: Aztec Philosophy by James Maffie (3/?)

Leon Portilla, the founder of Modern Mesoamerican history, faced backlash in the 1950s and 60s for saying the Aztecs had philosophy which was seen as a thing only europeans did.
