NZ student visa: lodge with a conditional offer and get approval in principle first. prosper.lk/post/new-zealand-student…
A smiling young woman sits on a sofa with her passport resting on a laptop, in front of a New Zealand lake print, ready to seek New Zealand student visa approval in principle, with the words "NZ student visa: apply before your offer is final".

Were I to put it so, this is a look out the window moment for @rnzrss.bsky.social Journalists. How about you analyse the review itself and report on that rather than the soundbite?

That competition already exists between some supermarket brands does not logically lead to the conclusion that restructuring cannot increase competition further. This is a non sequitur existing competition and increased future competition are not mutually exclusive. The review does not address this.
Sense Partners’ modelling is predicated on the assumption that no individual
Foodstuffs store or brand presently competes with another.9
There is no basis for this assumption. Foodstuffs stores are individually owned
with a strong incentive to compete. Pak’nSave stores can and do presently win
business from New World (and Woolworths) stores, and vice versa.
The critical but erroneous assumption that restructuring Foodstuffs will
significantly intensify competition between all supermarket brands and stores
underpins the entirety of Sense Partners’ grocery price reductions.

From the report: We don't know what they did in detail but we're gonna guess anyway.
MBIE released only the results and underlying methodology reported by Sense
Partners, with insufficient detail to allow the modelling to be replicated and its
sensitivity to key assumptions explored. Our review is therefore preliminary and
confined to what can be gleaned from the numbers as reported.

Places should focus less on courting millionaires and more on cultivating and retaining highly educated young people. Recent college graduates are among the most mobile people in the country. They are the pipeline for the millionaires and top taxpayers of 2045. These young workers are not choosing where to live based on the tax rates paid by those at the very top. They're looking for places where they can afford the rent, find good work, build a social life, meet a partner and eventually raise a family. If they achieve their highest economic aspirations, one day they will be paying the highest tax rates. For now, they need the basics of opportunity to be within reach. Soon they'll need affordable child care and good schools.

In a corridor of #lights, Te Waihorotiu Station, Albert St. #Auckland #Photography #Aotearoa #BlueSkyArtShow
3:2, #Monochrome, Landscape: A #blackandwhite #street #photograph shot at #night shows a solitary person standing in a long, dimly lit urban corridor. The person is positioned slightly right of centre, facing toward the left side of the frame, with their head turned as if looking down the walkway. They wear a hooded jacket pulled up over their head and a backpack with straps visible across their shoulders. The corridor is lined on the left with a smooth wall punctuated by small, evenly spaced rectangular lights, each casting a soft glow downward. These lights create a repeating pattern of illumination that stretches into the distance. The floor is made of large square tiles arranged diagonally, forming a geometric grid that leads the eye toward the far end of the walkway. The right side of the frame fades into darkness, giving the space a sense of emptiness and quiet. The overall mood is still and contemplative, with the lone figure appearing small against the strong lines and receding perspective of the corridor.

Bulbs off Customs St West. #Photography #Aotearoa #BlueSkyArtShow #Lights
3:2, #Colour, Portrait: A #color #night #photograph of four vintage-style pendant light bulbs hanging on thin black cords at different heights against a striped, semi-translucent blue glass or fluted panel wall. Each bulb has a dark bell-shaped metal fitting at the top and a clear glass bulb below showing a glowing warm-yellow filament. The bulbs are arranged at varying depths and heights across the frame: one near the top centre-left, one at mid-height in the centre foreground appearing largest and most in focus, one small and distant on the right edge, and one large and closest to the camera in the bottom-left corner, its filament shown in reddish-pink tones rather than warm white, likely from coloured light reflecting off it. A thin, bright red laser-like line cuts diagonally across the lower portion of the frame, crossing in front of the nearest bulb and continuing toward the right edge. The background wall has a corrugated or ribbed texture rendered in cool teal-blue tones, with a lighter rectangular patch of illumination visible in the upper right area suggesting an interior space or window beyond. The overall mood is moody, minimal, and abstract, with the bulbs' warm glow contrasting against the cool blue backdrop and the sharp red line adding a graphic, almost technological accent.

At the store reading the news
A printed note on a supermarket shelf:

The current shortage of sardines is primarily due to environmental and supply chain factors.
Key Reasons for the Shortage
Environmental Changes: Warmer ocean temperatures have disrupted the plankton supply, which is essential for sardine populations. This has made sardines harder to catch.
Export Restrictions: Morocco, the leading exporter of sardines, has halted frozen sardine exports to protect domestic supplies and stabilize prices.
• Increased Demand: There has been a surge in popularity for canned sardines, leading to higher demand that outpaces supply.
Global Supply Chain Issues: Various logistical challenges have compounded the availability of sardines in stores.

Illusory #undulating pavement Customs St West #Auckland #Photography #Aotearoa #BlueSkyArtShow Our perception is dominated by light & shade. Our eyes eyes have 20x more rods (shade) than cones (colour). The brain processes edges separately to shade, hence the illusion, which is undone by motion.
3:2, #Monochrome, Landscape: A #blackandwhite #street #photograph looking down at a paved sidewalk, shot from a low, oblique angle. The paving stones are laid in straight, rectangular rows, but broad curved bands of light and shadow sweep diagonally across them, creating a striking optical illusion: the flat, straight-edged pavers appear to ripple and undulate, as if the ground itself were bowed or wave-like rather than flat. Fine texture and grain in the stone are picked out clearly by the light, along with visible joint lines and a couple of small drainage grates set into the paving. In the upper right, a pair of legs and feet in dark trousers and shoes are cropped at the top of the frame, mid-stride. Their long shadow stretches diagonally across the pavement toward the lower left, alongside a second, rounder shadow further up the frame suggesting another figure or object just out of view, possibly carrying something overhead. On the right edge, a metal grate or drain cover with fine parallel slats is partially visible, along with a faint reflection in a glossy strip of pavement. The overall effect is stark and graphic, with deep black shadow shapes, bright sunlit stone, and the illusion of a rolling, uneven surface produced entirely by the interplay of light and shade.

When overseen and directed appropriately this can be of high value to graduates. But...... If not done well the best you can hope for is to subsidise businesses with cheap dumb labour and the businesses know it. At worst it manages to harm the businesses involved too. After 20+ years I know.

Afternoon shadow, Customs St West, #Auckland #Photography #Aotearoa
16:9, #Monochrome, Portrait: A #blackandwhite #street photograph shot at ground level, taken from behind a woman walking away from the camera on a paved sidewalk. Low, raking sunlight casts her silhouette into an extremely long, distorted shadow that stretches down the textured stone paving toward the camera, dominating the lower half of the frame. The woman is rendered as a solid black silhouette: shoulder-length hair, a knee-length coat or dress, and low heels, mid-stride. Beyond her, several more pedestrians appear as smaller silhouettes further down the sidewalk, including a couple walking side by side in the upper left. To the right, a dark building facade fills the frame's edge, with a metal grate or vent set into the pavement nearby. The paving stones show strong texture and joint lines picked out by the low light. The overall mood is stark and graphic, with deep black shadow tones contrasting against bright, sunlit pavement.

Personally, I feel this misses the point. Yes, it may be argued that we are having the same debate. This presumes we are in the same discourse with the same "inevitable" conclusion. What we are not being encouraged to do is explore the ways in which this debate is different and IMHO it is.
