Carefully watching a powerful low approach the NW tip of Vancouver Island pre-dawn Christmas Eve. A low inside 130°W with this pressure normally spells pretty big trouble with power outages and damage for Vancouver Island. #BCStorm

The streak of windstorms continues… (1/3🧵) #BCStorm The forecast is straightforward: if you live along the water, expect wind gusts of up to 100 km/h. The North Island will see much less impact compared to the recent bomb cyclone.
HRDPS Computer model highlighting peak wind gusts through Saturday evening.
Comox: 95 km/h
Tofino: 84 km/h
Nanaimo: 59 km/h
Victoria: 91 km/h
Metro Van: 78-105 km/h (highest SW beaches)

The photo shows a tall, towering tree viewed from the base, looking upward into a dense canopy of branches and leaves. The perspective emphasizes the height and grandeur of the tree, with its textured bark and massive trunk stretching into the sky. The background is filled with overlapping greenery, giving a sense of being deep in a lush forest. The lighting is soft, possibly diffused by overcast skies, creating a calm and natural atmosphere

Textbook strong mid-latitude cyclone. The tight comma look and strong frontal boundaries highlight the rapid intensification. It's driven by the warm and cold airmass interaction, creating rapid upward motion. Note the stratocumulus clouds wrapping behind (popcorn-like) highlighting the cold air.

Here's a look at a half-decent 2021 proxy, it was a long-duration wind event across Vancouver Island, but the media ran with it and it became majorly overhyped. This low will be weaker, but marginally closer to the coast, but the worst impacts will surely be felt on Vancouver Island. #BCStorm
