I think when you had a dad that you loved absolutely but he thought you could “do better, be more popular, etc.,” it definitely affects who you become as a person. I just wanted to be the love of someone’s life. Oh well. Maybe next time.

I always just wanted a husband who adored me and still wanted to hold my hand in our 80s and be an actual life partner. I didn’t get that, even after 30+ years together. And it makes me sad.

Some guys pulled me over once to tell me my tired was flat. It wasn’t on the rim yet. They got out and changed the tire without a word of thanks. I will always pay that forward when I can.

I went home and told my husband that I’d tried to help some men. He snarled at me and said “Well, then, you’re a fucking idiot.” I physically recoiled like I’d been slapped. Him: that’s how women die. Helping men. Me: I don’t fucking care. I help people. It still stings. But I don’t regret it.

I remember one time I was at the storage unit that my husband and I had. And I saw two elderly black men whose truck wouldn’t start. And the racist running the business they went to turned them away immediately. So I asked it I could help them. And we tried to jump their truck. And it didn’t work.

6 1/2 years in and I still haven’t gotten COVID or it’s been entirely asymptomatic. Every one of my friends and family have had it 2-3 times. Anyone else like this? Volunteered for a research study on it today.

For not the last time in 21 years, the disaster here because of Katrina was man-made. The levees didn’t overtop. They collapsed. The natural disaster was in Mississippi. Where my mother was and still is.
