We would have survived Katrina. Our house was fine until the 17th Street canal broke. And then it would’ve been two weeks in four-foot water. I left. Bc I could. Everyone I know lost everything. My family was in BSL. Landfall. Still hurts. And the survivors guilt…

When I was 3-4, I thought hush puppies were sea creatures, like shrimp. I never wanted to eat them bc they were puppies. My mom also told me that a pregnant woman had “a baby in her belly.” I was horrified bc I thought she ate the baby. Ahh, 70s childhood.
