The first Google hit - and main references on the search for "Change My Mind" - is a country song. Where's his lawsuit against that? Have to say I'm glad it's been months since I've had to think of Crowder.

It's certainly notable that Bolduc is crossing his party, but Pappas should be embarrassed to highlight an election-denier - endorsement or not. Let Bolduc say whatever the hell he wants, but don't lend him any legitimacy. www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a...
From the New Yorker on 11/14/22: Last week, Maggie Hassan, the incumbent Democratic senator of New Hampshire, defeated her Republican opponent, Don Bolduc, a retired Army general and a Donald Trump supporter. Known during his military career for focussing on the mental health of his soldiers, Bolduc took a hard-right turn to curry favor with Trump—a strategy that helped him triumph in the G.O.P. primary. When he and I last spoke, in 2021, he went on at length about his loyalty to Trump, and his belief that the 2020 Presidential election had been stolen. Later in the campaign, Bolduc disavowed his election denialism, before then going on to hint that he did so only to win over New Hampshire’s electorate, which is relatively moderate. Hassan ended up defeating him by a nine-point margin.

Legality, ethics & optics aside, a party controlling the White House & two chambers could pass it now, aim for sending the $ out in mid- to late-October & say "Look what we've done for you." Instead, it's "Do something for us after we've wrecked the economy and we promise we'll actually do this."

My 82-0 team absolutely is better than my 81-1 team. And now that's the end of that distraction.
My team from nhl82.ca: left wing Charlie Simmer (1970s Kings); center Mario Lemieux (1980s Pittsburgh); right wing Brett Hull (1990s St. Louis); left defense Quinn Hughes (2020s Vancouver); right defense Erik Karlsson (2010s Ottawa); and goalie Dominik Hasek (2000s Detroit).

By the way, this audit was done by Pennsylvania's auditor general, Timothy DeFoor, who is a Republican.
Post by Cato Institute: "Pennsylvania audited 210,905 voter registration forms tied to PennDOT. Result: 1 noncitizen was improperly sent and registered—he never voted and is no longer registered. Another real-world data point against claims of noncitizens voting en masse."

This is the rub. It's never going to be 2000 again for newspapers. But it's better to retain & revise the Post-Gazette than to lose it entirely -- and dump more skilled journalists out of the industry.
From Tribune-Review story (4/14/26):
Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh President Andrew Goldstein said the sale was “definitely good news” but many questions remained unanswered.

“It’s pretty clear to us that they [the Venetoulis Institute] are saying the Post-Gazette in its current form isn’t sustainable,” Goldstein said.

Goldstein said the news was a “nice way” of talking about job cuts.

The Baltimore Banner reported Tuesday that the Venetoulis Institute is buying only the assets of the paper, and it is not required to assume the contracts of Block Communications.

Blazina, who stressed he was not speaking on behalf of the union, said staff was told there would be “conversations” over the next week regarding staffing sizes and job status.

Reporters, producers, editors, photographers and engineers regularly respond in real time when news breaks. They work evenings, early mornings and weekends. They field tips, verify information, and help provide clarity in moments that can quickly become confusing or chaotic.

Sometimes, that work looks polished and composed on air.
Sometimes, it starts in slippers.

So, I just realized one of my grandfathers had been in the U.S. for 16 years before he became a citizen in 1954. He was almost 17 when he arrived. By then, he was a married homeowner with two kids. Not sure I ever knew how long it took. Hits a hell of a lot differently these days. #PathToCitizenship

“A skier with lightning reaction time, massive muscle recruitment, experience in the sport and the help of a functional ACL brace would be best equipped to attempt a downhill course without an ACL.” #GiftLink www.nytimes.com/athletic/702...
Excerpt from a story in The Athletic:
Karen Sutton, an orthopedic surgeon with the Hospital for Special Surgery who has worked with the U.S. ski team, said all downhill skiers have something like superhuman strength, given their ability to maintain speeds of 75 mph-95 mph as they fly down slopes with gradients potentially of 65 percent.

Alpine skiing, however, is what physicians refer to as a “Level II pivoting sport, meaning it has less quick, sharp pivoting than Level I pivoting sports like soccer or basketball,” Sutton wrote in a text message.

“When an ACL is not functioning, an athlete recruits all of these muscles to try to counterbalance instability of the knee. The muscles have to be strong and powerful enough to combat extremes of G-forces down the mountain,” Sutton wrote.

“A skier with lightning reaction time, massive muscle recruitment, experience in the sport and the help of a functional ACL brace would be best equipped to attempt a downhill course without an ACL.”

We all know there are miserable people like this. It's just amazing that they advertise and offer permission to be a terrible person.
Text from Globe and Mail column "I’ve stopped helping drivers when they are stuck in the snow. And you should too" on 1/23/26:
"It’s not too late for the All-Season Gang' to change their ways. We had no business taking an AMC Pacer out in a snowstorm back on that cold Ottawa day in the 1980s. Dan Dever could have strolled by without a backward glance, but he came to our rescue. To turn my back on other stranded souls seems a little ungracious. Perhaps I can become, if not a Good Samaritan, then an ambivalent one. Nothing is colder than a cold heart."

I'm old enough - and I ain't that old - to remember news headlines in 2009 questioning if Obama was "overexposed" in the first year of his presidency. We have a generation that only knows Obama, Trump & Biden as president - and Biden rarely drove the news cycle. Effective pols steer attention.
NPR headline from October 1, 2009: "President Obama: Overexposed Or Media Savvy?"

Short summary: "We're talking about President Obama being everywhere, all the time. How much is too much face time from our president?"Time Magazine headline from March 26, 2009 - just two months into Obama's first term: "Obamathon: Is the President Overexposed?"

Story summary: "Pundits say the President is overexposed. But in today's media, that's the only kind of exposure that works."
