Friends coming to #Seattle for #SLICE2026, #SIX2026, #PAXwest or just because -- be advised that our summer #covid wave is here. Urgent care nurses reporting many positives per day and wastewater is high.
A screenshot of the wastewater viral activity dashboard for the Seattle area. There is a map of the region and the seattle city center section is marked dark blue for "very high" levels of covid. Surrounding regions also show elevated rates.

Is there a German word for the feeling of togetherness that comes from Google search suggestions?

It's a terrible idea but I respect it.

Quite impressive that Claude can do this so smoothly. Many kinds of thinking in one task. (Final result first, first request next followed by iterations.)

I'm sure not a coincidence with Halloween coming up and whatnot, but I just started doing foam armor for the kids this year and was just thinking it could make a great after-school program!
A white foam pauldron or shoulder armor piece shown on a white long sleeve shirt with silver sequins on the arm. The pauldron has two pieces and is rimmed with gold ribbon and decorated with gold rivets and a gold tassel.

I opened up the comments on the fb post to see if the artist was discussed. The first (buried) comment was indeed someone discussing the artist, in this case because he is semi-famous in bio art. But the original poster replies thanking them and saying they tried to find the artist and couldn't.
A screenshot of a facebook post titled "Kenneth's Post" with a comment from Natalie Snyder that says "Artist is Ray Troll. He's amazing." Replies follow from Kenneth Gevaudan (Author): "Thanks. I wondered who to credit" and Jim Whaley: "Kenneth Gevaudan Art from 'Crusin the Fossil Freeway', a tale of a 5000 mile fossil-hunt Western road trip with paleontologist Kirk Johnson and artist Ray Troll, or 'Cruisin the Fossil Coastline', ditto except driving and boating down the Pacific coast." Below Jim's comment is an image of the cover of Cruisin' the Fossil Freeway'.

I used Lens to search for the artist. Google did not know. THIS IS BECAUSE this image has been shared so many times without attribution. I had to dig through dozens of shares of the image before I found a blog post by Duke University that added a caption with Ray's name (good job, Duke).
A screen capture of a Google Lens search with an infographic and the word "artist" in the search bar. The text reads "Search Labs | AI Overview: It is difficult to determine the specific artist of this geological timeline illustration based on the available information, as the image itself does not contain an artist's signature or credit, and a search for "artist" in relation to this image did not yield a definitive answer."A screenshot of a Duke University blog post from researchblog.duke.edu showing an infographic of geological time. At the top are two people and a pickup truck with a nautilus in the back of it. The earth, divided into slices, is below them. A center column denotes cenozoc, mesozoic, and paleozoic eras (top to bottom). On the left side slices show drawings of fossils matching their eras. The right side is divided into eras from the Holocene to the Archaean from top to bottom, and notes on the outside of the 'earth' show time in millions of years, ranging from 11,700 years (separating the Holocene from the Pleistocene) to 2.5 billion years (separating the Proterozoic from the Archaean). A box at the bottom notes "Earth forms 4.6 billion years ago". Boxes also note the T/K and T/P extinctions on the left side with "big big extinction" and "gigantic extinction" marked respectively. Below the image are the words "Ray Troll's geological time scale".

I posted about this on mastodon years ago, but it bears repeating: if you care about artists, CREDIT their work when you use it. I saw this amazing infographic shared on facebook and its situation with credit tells a story that is critical context on AI art outrage today. (The artist is Ray Troll.)

Kind of a v1 prototype (I want to do another, better one) but I made an Amida Buddha #Lego minifigure for a dharma school activity this past weekend.

Thought for sure this was a hallucination, but no -- this is actually how you can propagate moss. Sometimes reality is weirder than even #AI can come up with. #Moss, I raise a glass to you. 🍺 jccwmg.org/wordpress/cu...
Search Labs AI Overview result that reads "To grow moss on cheesecloth, gather some moss, ideally from a damp, shaded area. Place a piece of cheesecloth in a location with similar conditions, and either loosely place some moss on top or create a slurry with crumbled moss and a liquid like yogurt, buttermilk, or beer, then spread it on the cheesecloth. Keep the cheesecloth moist, and in time, the moss will spread and attach to the fabric."

Greetings from Milky Way! Was my favorite as a kid and shows it. There is a Plum Blossom and a Tiffany in another box somewhere around here. I'm kind of bummed at how Buttons has faded.

This weekend in northwest Washington a #TransRights sunset. Nature knows.

Amazing to get this update from #PasadenaBuddhistTemple. Local neighbors climbed the fence to put out spot fires in the temple gardens. Heroic work from Rev. Gibbs and temple members who repeatedly watered down the exterior to protect it from the fire that reached up Montana. 🙏
A social media post with photographs of the Pasadena Buddhist temple. The photographs show caretakers standing in front of the temple intact, and a second photograph shows a singed fence and smoking ground at the foot of a patio.

Text reads:
Fire update. We are still standing on the morning of January 9. The Eaton fire is still not contained, but for now, the fire seems to be moving away from the temple. We are beyond grateful to our neighbors on Montana, the street behind the temple. While houses were burning on their street, they climbed over our fence and put out burning embers in our temple tea garden and were watering down the area. Temple Co-President and a couple of our SOGs (Sons of Gardeners volunteers) and Rev. Gibbs returned to unlock the temple parking lot gate and found them working and helped them water down the smoking embers beneath the Hondo portico and some of the tea garden structures. They returned today to check on the temple and took this photo. You can see the smoke to the upper right. Air quality is terrible and the City of Pasadena has advised to not use the tap water until further notice. Sadly, we have already heard of five members and temple friends who have lost their houses to this fire. We are still gathering information about our Sangha and happily have no reports of injuries. We will be assessing the damage and setting up ways to help our members recover following this disaster. The high winds are expected to continue at least through the weekend. We hope this is the end of the danger to the temple. We appreciate so much all of the good wishes and concern you have shared with us via social media, texts and calls. Namo Amida Butsu.

We moved to #Seattle and it's absolutely obnoxious how happy this place makes me. I don't think seeing Rainier on the descent will ever get old. On the one hand this is a terrible photo of it, but on the other I love it, the snow and rock just melting in and out of the clouds.
A photo of Mt Rainier from southern approach in an airplane. Fluffy white clouds fill the bottom half of the image. A horizontal slice of the mountain is visible with flat gray clouds obscuring its peak.
