Among his other luminous talents, Mike Ford was a celebrated contributor to TTRPGs (his sidebar "Why People Support Rotten Empires" in GURPS Space, written in the 80s, is still much too resonant), so I love that my alias in that world preserves a little spark of his unmatchable wit.

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since we lost John M. Ford. For that time and longer, he's been a huge influence on me - indeed, my handle is a reference to a footnote in one of his offhand jokes from the (also late and much-lamented) comments on Making Light.

Pursuant to this: I was overjoyed recently to find that the rift swine plushy @ellyzk.bsky.social made for me to celebrate this benchmark was among the items restored from the fire. He's taken his place atop Ravenloft, where he assuredly belongs.

Over the weekend, we hit a whole month since Chaz's gotcha day. We introduced him to Pepper pretty deliberately, with site swaps and supervised meetings. Now our two extremely awkward cats are extremely awkwardly trying to figure out how to play together.

Update: Chaz has out-zoomed himself and fallen asleep on his toys.

Chaz the tabby kitten is absolutely crashed lying on top of several cat toys. Visible are a crab, a lizard, and part of a colorful plush fish, all of which he spent the previous ten minutes or so gleefully attempting to disembowell. Somewhere under the expanse of kitten are also at least two fuzzy catnip balls with feathers. I will also note that he has once again wedged himself directly in front of the door, meaning that if I want to leave I have to disturb all this. I have not yet figured out if this is something he knows and has planned for.
