The Commission is adding €500m to the Horizon Europe 2026–27 work programme, bringing the total to about €14.8bn. €237m targets a nature-positive transition and €260m bridges towards the next research framework. AI for media is one topic inside the second call, not the whole €260m. #Research

The Commission does not support mandatory origin labels for every food product sold in the EU. It prefers sector-by-sector extensions based on consumer interest, business costs and Single Market effects. Origin rules could expand for specific products, but no blanket obligation is proposed. #Food

The Commission wants every EU country to prepare a national food-security crisis plan. But the proposal does NOT require governments to stockpile food and does not create an EU strategic food reserve. Countries choosing to maintain stocks would manage them nationally and at market prices.

The Commission wants to redirect €277.6m to humanitarian aid and civil protection. €235.2m would go to humanitarian crises and €42.4m to civil protection. If approved, the transfer would exhaust the remaining 2026 Emergency Aid Reserve. The money has not all been transferred yet.

Ukraine’s next macro-financial instalment under the €90bn EU support loan is indicatively worth €3.7bn. The Commission says payment depends on agreed reforms and conditions being completed. Nearly €15bn of the up to €45bn available for 2026 has been disbursed so far. #Ukraine #EUFunds

A past cancer diagnosis should not remain a permanent financial penalty, the Commission says. It is consulting on a broader EU “right to be forgotten” so cancer history stops affecting insurance or credit after a defined period. The consultation closes 27 October. No new universal rule exists yet.

Booking.com has stopped using hotels’ prices on their own websites or competing platforms when determining Sponsored Benefit eligibility in the EEA. Hotels can offer different rates elsewhere without being penalised in the programme. That does not mean direct booking will always be cheaper. #DMA
