This has got to be the political quote of the year: “It is a farce and a desperate distraction, and the people of Clacton deserve better,” Reeves said. “But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won’t stop him.”

“Is there a hard chapter of your life you're now grateful for? What did it give you?” Running out of money, age 20(?), credit cards full, overdraft maxed, bills to pay and pay day weeks away. I had help - but it made me acutely aware that I was lucky to have it. In hindsight I’m grateful it […]

“What's a piece of advice someone gave you that took years to actually understand?” I thought I understood this, but in time I really began to appreciate its value. “Keep your powder dry” some things are better left unsaid and often situations will evolve in time in a more favourable manner […]

Imagine sailing around the world single handed. Then imagine taking immunosuppressants for gastrointestinal cancer while doing so. Then imagine winning, knocking 9 days off the record. That was Charlie Dalin. RIP. Exceptional sailor, an inspiration, and a legend. Deserved more time. ⛵️

“What's something about the future you're genuinely, privately optimistic about?” That in my lifetime we will win the Americas Cup back. Just look at our success under Mills and Fletcher in Sail GP with Ainslie’s support. It’s going to happen. 🤞 Yes, I will be in Naples next year. 😎⛵️🇬🇧 […]

"What was a rule or belief in your house growing up that you've kept as an adult — and one you quietly dropped the moment you could?" Tricky one. We've mirrored most rules from my and Victoria's upbringing. Nothing notable dropped. I'm a stickler for table manners and polite communication. 😇 […]

Use YNAB? I've become a fan of autoslip.ai which is very handy for categorising those pesky receipts which cover multiple categories (Costco, Amazon, Ocado, etc). For $3 a month, totally worth it to avoid the hassle. ...yes, I used to get Claude to do this, but it's just not as easy! […]

I placed a somewhat low-ball bid on Bordeaux Index earlier in May. £310 for 6x75cl of 2019 Chateau Pontet-Canet IB. I was tempted at the 2025 EP release at £378 but felt like it's probably better to spend less and hold the 2019. Didn't expect that somebody would let it go for that. This […]

Summer is lovely and all that, but light streaming into a 4 year old’s room at both bedtime and 5am is not. We treated Charlotte (and ourselves) to a new blackout blind from Blocout blocout.com. Absolutely love it, easy to put up and is 100 % blacked out. £145, but worth it. 👌

We had a 'Daddy Day' this past weekend and visited the wonderful RH&DR: andrews.io/blog/Romney-Hythe-Dymnch…
andrews.io
Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway
This weekend I had a ‘Daddy Day’, as Mummy was out with her friend. My colleague at work mentioned that he’s planning on coming to Dungeness for a few days soon as a short holiday. It’s been a long time since I went there, but I do know that there are only a few things to do there: the lifeboat, the lighthouse and the railway. I have vivid memories of the railway from my childhood and I’m not surprised because the thing is pretty incredible as a kid. For those that don’t know, it’s basically a miniaturised but fully operational railway, not quite ‘sit-on’ miniature, but small enough that a driver can just about fit in the cab of a locomotive. I don’t quite know how to describe it, but you’ll get the idea from the pictures. It’s pretty legendary. And so with that, I couldn’t quite shift the itch to go and see it this coming weekend.

Looking back at our energy costs for 2025. We spent £1,423 on electricity import + standing charges. We earned £860 on solar export. So a net cost of £563 across the year. £1.55/day or £47/month. Not bad at all, happy with that. This covers our house, heating/DHW (ASHP) and both EVs. We have a […]

My homemade Ginger Bug Ginger Beer is very good. It took a while to get going, left it out at room temp for about 4 days, now in the fridge. Has plenty of natural carbonation, a pleasant ‘funk’ and quite a substantial ginger flavour. Love it! Not too sugary which is good. 🍻
