I'm at college now-- can't seem to draw anything at all. I think I'm going to put this account on ice for now.

Unfortunately so -- if you want to see one of the reasons for this, you can look at twitter and see resident evil "fans" who would like to rip all of Zach Cregger's flesh off with their teeth because he didn't transpose one of the games directly to movie format. Making an effort is not rewarded.

That's just an appropriate balanced side account, anything else would actually be concerning

I've taken to calling the infamous AAA/marvel/corposlop aesthetic Commercial Realism. I don't know if that's truly accurate, but it feels right and rolls off the tongue well enough.

It's also not always the case and a bit of a vibes thing -- but like, I just can't even pretend to be serious when there is a dramatic and emotional scene with an anime girl with gigantic barely-covered honkers that take up a solid quarter of my screen because they're what the game is actually about

This might be a hot take(?), but I've always had a lot of trouble enjoying anime media that is meant to be like... dark, mature, and serious -- but then the characters are cutesy anime girls and equally stereotypical (if more clothed) anime boys. It goes from emotional to goofy very fast for me.

Cyclical Curse Form
A path from mensis, where the way is split; the manner is time, cleverness merely; deceit to give others comfort; its inevitability as deep as the breath you'll be sure to make; an outcome wind like current, humbled and no less wiser, filled with a currency of exposure, and a lonely rage.

Slightly depressing that even stuff like Baldur's Gate is being infected by a virus usually endemic to schlocky romance/harem anime. "Here's a bunch of characters, they're all amazingly cool and hot with nary a blemish on their skin or weird habit, pick the one best suited to your kinks!"

I am also a victim of such design choices, but I find the (modern? I don't really know) phenomenon of "everyone's super duper attractive without even a single blemish upon them" to be near-universal infection in media. Sometimes it's okay but it can feel like I'm playing a beauty product advert.

I may have disappeared for 2 months to make the most mediocre piece of art in history hopefully I will finish it soon so we can find out

I make sure the veil of mystery surrounding my art is never broken by simply never never finishing or posting amy of it

I haven't seen them yet, but somehow I can already guess exactly what they look like. Also adding "Artstation Disease" to my lexicon

Is there a single social media website that hasn't gone completely rancid? this place seemed like it had some potential, but the mod/dev team seems intent on ruining everything for some reason. I'd like to put my work where people can actually see it, but the options are all awful.

at least NFTs looked like they might really have been useful from an uninformed but well-intentioned perspective. I could forgive someone for thinking they've found a new avenue to support themselves and make money, but that logic just doesn't translate to using an LLM to make knockoffs of yourself.

Even when you *are* making stuff and just not anything you want to post, it's there - I try to not think about how I post on this account maybe once per month, it feels like I should have so much more. tho it is kinda my fault since I *have* been posting, just not things that belong on this account.

Wait no, I did occupy a server at one point that had a habit of changing rules and not announcing it, so one day I checked in to post some art, only to be met with no images perms -- after 2 months I learned that the rules changed and they manually verified artists and gave them a special role.

Sometimes I wonder about obscure discord servers the same way I think about the creatures at the bottom of the ocean -- all the Discord servers I'm in have entry rules of "react to this message so we know you're probably real" and "here's the rules: be normal". I fear whatever evil is buried deeper

Kicking their own asses has been Microsoft's specialty for like, the past 15 years. It's kind of inspiring how good they are at doing literally anything except for making the thing that people want (namely win7 but modernized, without the weird horrible things they keep coming up with)

learned of hiyameshi-retro-pack.web.app/apps/Heisei-..., I've played with it a bit. I don't know how to feel about this looking strictly better than the original... maybe the big res one needs more contrast and details.

It's hard to not treat the public like morons when they consistently prove they are morons. Anyone who has worked a bottom-rung service job knows this.

The lede that everyone has been missing here is that, even before it looking awful, is that these tiny little low-motion near-screenshot snippets were all they could show us. Why? Because this, according to the man in the video, required *two 5090s in tandem*. So like $9,000 in hardware for... this.

It's awesome if you're a half-person that lacks that lacks any kind of internal existence, same vein as people who have no ability to evaluate, say, clothing beyond "more pricey = more cooler", and in this case, More Detailed is More Graphics, therefore it simply must be better, because it's More.

USA number one and such, we have the biggest and best -- which of course includes the biggest babies and most catastrophic crashouts. I'm pretty certain that this isn't a good thing, but it is at least expected.

maybe Claude can code pretty well... from the perspective of a lazy and unskilled techbro who barely scraped out of college while retaining no information, who is looking for an excuse to continue to be lazy and blame ineptitude on an ineffable black box of code

I just say that you have to see examples of what bad looks like just as much as good to keep a handle on how to make something decent. Knowing what not to do is helpful, or so I tell myself

did they change how much money you make from races? when I played like... a year ago, I remember getting the feeling that if I spent poorly I would be stuck in grinding hell since I got the impression that generic races didn't pay much.

ahh I haven't played TXR since it was in super early beta, I should go back to it. I also had a bit of a lack of feel for that one, it kind of felt like a straight stats competition at times. I also realize that it's goofy to try and diagnose this kinda thing without like, seeing gameplay...

It depends entirely on the game imo, which one is giving you trouble? I know that some games don't exactly give you the best briefing on how to do well and just dumps you into it.

Craig Mullins, too. I listened to a podcast from 2024 where he talks about it - He at least gives that diffusion models weren't useful in that moment, but he then also essentially describes detractors as fossils or hysterical losers who were afraid of losing a job. Felt pretty mean-spirited.

Nothing like trying to do a complicated but possible-looking figure study to drop your confidence a peg... or ten. :^) and then you do a drawing from imagination later and for some reason it comes out perfect despite still being pissed off and having 0 plan or really idea of what you're doing.

Unfortunately not, you only need one person who is juuuust compelling enough at public speaking to become the black hole that lures in the weak-minded who prefer to pin issues onto a chosen enemy. It's rather embarrassing for humanity's claim of great intellect that it is truly that simple.
