Why? It was uncouth to ask such a thing. Harmony was currently his superior, and it was not his place to offer balm for her imbalances, even though his independent dissections of the tempers had blessed him with informal insight. Woe can be cured. Surely Reghabi would agree that Cobel needn't draw her cilice tighter before kneeling in an hour's penance at Kier's
altar; she could just take a pill, and to greater effect. Or, an efficient jolt in voltage behind the eyes would do. "She didn't tell me," he says, which is technically
true. "You didn't ask," Reghabi corrects flatly, and then Milchick is aflutter, nauseous with something. He does not think the sensation is guilt. It is instead a
discomfiting satisfaction at being so well seen. Reghabi stares at him like he is a specimen, like she's
found a new morbid lacuna.
Truly, he thinks, this woman is my friend.

looking forward to the release of @huntersmarkzine.bsky.social coming up soon, happy to say I’ve got a piece in it! wip preview feat. Arianna and a certain spider man:
A shadow passed over the door, falling across the glaze of the glass, and she sighed, hoping not to see the dove-gray of that man's garb returning, but when she looked up there was a mass of black, pitch-dark, large. It rose up, up past the lintel, up to where she could no longer see.
She stood very still. She realized her heart was pounding. She began to soothe herself; it was not at all
sustainable to startle at shadows in Yharnam. Reason returned: the thing had been large, but not monstrously so, and so it was not a loping beast or mad stray Pthumerian but perhaps instead a fat crow struggling back up to its roost. She had not heard the typical croak-barks of the glutted city wildlife, just the tip-tip-tap of something scuttling over the glass, but she was tired and if the thing was not coming back then it did not matter. A dozen new species of nightmare were documented in this city every week, and she wanted nothing to do with any of them. She'd leave it for her other customer, the doctor who had once happily reached up her chimney to retrieve a soot-coated teratoma, and Arianna had hidden her face and wept and only somewhat pretended at terror as he had strangled the thing while saying, with contemptuous satisfaction, look, gems! The squeezed polyp of bloodstone had been left on her mantle as a tip, and Arianna had traded it for half the lamp-oil it was worth just to be rid of it.

Happy kosmas @ofsilentthings.bsky.social ! Hunter/micolash shenanigans now up: archiveofourown.org/works/70182871
The hunter knew, with the absolute truth of a dream, that the man before them was dead where it no longer mattered: that he had been the locus corpse that had brought them here. He only remained in the nightmare through sheer will, which explained why he looked so bloodless, or perhaps embalmed. The hunter thought of the spy upon the bridge: the supposed student, the Choir's man. They had beaten him about the head with a now-habitual brutality and a bit of clean glasses lens had been left on the cobblestone after he had dissolved, his mashed brow's hair and skin and pouring slough blood now gone. They wondered what had truly forced him to slip down from the dream, if not the violence done to his body. They wondered what he had awakened to.
They thought about doing the same to this man. They thought about washing out all the ink he had put to paper, all conclusions lost, all starlit synapses turned to black. They looked at him, thinking about the crushed, pulpy softness of his neck within their grip, and they felt a sweet contempt.

anyone else feeling like time is a flat circle and so on thetransfemininereview.com/2024/11/13/a...
The issue at play here was slavery, not trans rights, but the consequences of the reaction of the Whigs to move rightward was a disaster for them and their allies. The Whigs committed the ultimate error of falling into a cycle of intense appeasement for minor political gains which would quickly be erased in the next election cycle. They completely failed to advocate for abolition, had absolutely zero meaningful political strength on the national level, and collapsed within twenty years of their inception. While this did ultimately lead to the creation of the pro-abolition Republican Party, the damage done by almost 30 years of uncontested Democratic slaveholder control upon this country still hasn't been undone two centuries later.
To any Democratic officials or thinkers who may be reading this article: this is the moment to close ranks and double down on our commitment to social justice and progressive politics. If you don't, history shows that the Democratic Party's future may be numbered in years, not centuries.
It was during the tailing years of the Jackson Administration that the legal groundwork for the criminalization of trans literature began to be laid. In 1835, the American Anti-Slavery Society began to send "inflammatory" pamphlets in the mail advocating for the end of slavery, sparking a moral panic among Jacksonian Democrats and a flurry of legislation criminalizing abolitionist speech across the South. But Democrats were deeply skeptical of passing national censorship laws to restrict the freedom of speech, because they knew that under a Whig administration they could be used against them. Fortunately, the Whigs did all of that work for them! Whig politicians would propose a "Gag Rule," which forbade the debate or discussion of any abolitionist laws in Congress as a way to appease Southern Evangelical voters (the Whig constituency was predominantly Evangelical).
