while i am in no way any professional here i really do think databases need a structured intermediate layer exposed as their stable API, and sql can just be one of the interfaces that can compile down to that intermediate layer for interactive use and legacy crap

OTOH "nosql" overcorrects too much and gets rid of tables and relations which i think can still be useful in a lot of cases so anything deviating from sql has to deal with the reputation that comes from that even if tehy don't work like that
