Eliza Orlins @elizaorlins.bsky.social · 28/11/2024But for 20 something people I got two turkeys and I did as I was supposed to and moved them to the fridge the day before. But I woke up Thanksgiving morning and they were still frozen SOLID. 2/x 2220
Eliza Orlins @elizaorlins.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I spent hours running them under room temperature water and finally thawed them enough to yank the bags out of the inside and dress and cook them. They turned out great. But all of this is to say, IF YOU ARE COOKING A TURKEY TOMORROW START DEFROSTING IT RIGHT NOW! 3/x 8453
GoofyBoy @goofyboy.bsky.social · 28/11/2024It takes several days to defrost a turkey in the fridge, which is the safe way to do it. 030
Chris Pentzell @cpentzell.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I also have a permanent scar from an oven burn from a different Thanksgiving. 020
Chris Pentzell @cpentzell.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I had an oven with a messed up temperature gauge. The glass on the meat thermometer was leaning up against the side and melted so I had no idea what the temperature was. I cooked it for hours and hours. Only the breast was cooked. Everything else was pink. I served the breast & threw away the rest. 020
Lilith @lilithfaithful.bsky.social · 28/11/2024You can actually cook them from frozen. www.thekitchn.com/how-to-cook-...thekitchn.comThe Second-Worst Part of Thanksgiving Is Completely UnnecessaryCooking a turkey straight from frozen sounds wild, but it actually works so well. 110
Paul Leal @hr29er.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Already thawed and have the neck and giblets cooked and ready to mince into the stuffing for roasting tomorrow (yah, I break all the rules!) 🦃😉 010
Tom @squiertom.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I’ve had to do exactly this, twice! First time I got it out the day before. Thought I learned my lesson. The second time it was a smaller turkey and I got it out 2 days before, but it was still frozen! 020
martinaenglington @martinaenglington.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Easy to defrost in a sink of cold water. 010
