Mar Hicks @histoftech.bsky.social · 22/03/2026Anyway, AI is a managerial technology that came out of fields where researchers act more like managers than researchers and this is not a coincidence. It’s fundamentally related to why certain people jumped at the chance to try to build certain kinds of systems that devalued (other people’s) work. 6506166
Peter Swimm @peterswimm.com · 22/03/2026I’ve been referring it to FAFO as a service, and if people push back, then you ask them to name three key metrics to ensure you are doing it right. 1120
Brian Hill @brianhill53703.bsky.social · 22/03/2026Managerial technology is precisely it. We've been encouraged to 'try Claude out' at work, and that's exactly what it felt like -- being a manager. Instead of being a master craftsman (30+ yrs) with a chisel in my hand, I had to repeat orders to a stupid apprentice who kept getting things wrong. 1817
Wes Miller @getwired.com · 22/03/2026Snickering to myself that it’s actually a middle-managerial technology, because it speaks authoritatively, but the answers it gives are very often quantifiably wrong. It’s not as capable as an experienced executive, and not as useful as an experienced knowledge worker. 1340
The Gurgling Cod (he/him) @thegurglingcod.bsky.social · 22/03/2026I worried about the same thing, sort of, here, b/c it seems like the writing AI does best is the kind that middle managers like deans have to do. sausageseason.substack.com/p/forms-or-y...sausageseason.substack.comForms, or you can't spell AI without pro forma. In a post about forms, I said I needed to read this book, and I did. 080
Nothings Monstered @nothingsmonstrd.bsky.social · 18/05/2026Good management, which measures and maximizes good outcomes, is hard to do. It's much easier to measure and maximize outputs. AI is tremendously useful for bad management. "This is great! Look at all this output!" 021
