A couple ways I sometimes think of it: People think of the Final Straw that causes the dramatic change, but you can't get to the final straw without the 1st, and the 50th, and the 876th. Sometimes it's more like erosion. -One- raindrop against a boulder may not wear off much, but it adds up.
