What Bird?🦜 @whatbirds.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

What bird is this? 🤔 (See alt text for clue) 🌎 #whatbird | #birdsoftheworld | #birds 🦉

A close-up photo of a relatively large bird (43–56 cm / 17–22 in long) resting on the back of a white outdoor chair. It features a white face and breast, a slender black crest of curled feathers on top of its head, vibrant blue upper back and wing plumage, and a thin black band wrapped around its upper chest.

Clue: Look for a striking crest and a long, graceful tail—this vocal Central American bird is a colourful member of the crow and jay family!

Fun Fact: These birds are cooperative breeders with a unique social system: female offspring often stay with their parents to help incubate eggs and feed future broods.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
