As he approached City Hall, a little laugh escaped Paige, despite the rapid thump of her pulse. The acidic smell of fear receded, leaving a spicy scent, like she'd swapped being terrified with being elated. He allowed himself a small grin as he flew north, speeding up until the winter air made her shiver.
"Ooh, look!" She'd turned her head towards the east, where the rising sun was a rich red on the horizon. "So gorgeous."
"It's pretty," he agreed. "Sometime I'll take you high enough that you can see it over the ocean."
Now Leo, why did you just say that? Why are you promising this human anything at all?
"That'd be lovely," she breathed, and he tried to ignore a strange flush of pride.
