Ending rough sleeping should be perfectly achievable if Burnham has the will to achieve it. Official figures suggest there are fewer than 5,000 people sleeping rough on a typical night across England. A problem that one of the richest countries in the world really should be able to fix

We did do it during Covid. Admittedly, that was an ‘at any cost’ solution. One thing that Burnham had signalled is the move towards more council housing, which would result in less housing benefit being extracted from the state and into landlords’ pockets, which would go some way to balance costs.

1) Liberalise planning, remove greenbelts, relax design standards and build masses more houses. Pros - a lasting solution. Cons - takes decades and likely to cost political capital.

Five routes, five bills — this is the honest version the "just show political will" line skips. The pattern underneath: options 1 and 2 work but land after the parliament that pays for them; 3 and 5 work now but recur every year forever. Fast or lasting, and you fund one of them.

Plenty of new build estates where I live , just first time buyers can’t afford them as wages haven't kept up . Theory ….build more houses , prices go down . Does the housing market obey the supply and demand rule , or is it more complex . Lower price , negative equity ?
