Rebecca R Helm @rebeccarhelm.bsky.social · 09/10/2024The quarter trick to check if your food is safe to eat after a prolonged evacuation: Freeze a cup of water and, once frozen, place a quarter on top of the ice. If your freezer thaws and refreezes while you’re away, the quarter will be frozen at the bottom of the cup & it’s time to toss your food. 10488168
Rebecca R Helm @rebeccarhelm.bsky.social · 09/10/2024Another method: bsky.app/profile/lian...Liana Brooks@lianabrooks.bsky.socialIf you don't have a quarter to spare, put some ice cubes in a cup or on a plate. If they change shape, they defrosted at some point. Toss your food and call your home insurance. A lot of home owner's insurance will cover the cost of replacing food due to disasters or outages. 1364

Boocoos @boocoos2.bsky.social · 09/10/2024Did you know you can test hearing aid type batteries by dropping on table top or floor. If they bounce they are good. If they are no good they do not bounce. 151
Tara Goddard @drtaragoddard.com · 09/10/2024I do this in Texas every time I travel for an extended period (because, well, the Texas grid 🫠🙃), but I started using berries instead of coins, so I could still use the ice cubes later if they didn't melt. Coins are gross. 😏 0203
E is fricking tired @ej5049a.bsky.social · 09/10/2024I heard that from some in the breastfeeding/chestfeeding set. The most vigilant freezer managers I have ever met. 0110
PizzaMonk @pizzatraveler.bsky.social · 09/10/2024If you freeze a dead pet in an action pose and they’re peacefully refrozen laying down when you get back, it’s time to toss your food. 030
PizzaMonk @pizzatraveler.bsky.social · 09/10/2024Or…freeze a half full bottle of water and then turn it upside down. 2302
