It was such a hard slog through rain and traffic to get there, but the first day of the Manila International Book Fair #MIBF was crazy crowded 1/

Crowds on the first day of the Manila International Book Fair at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila. Not even the monsoon could stop these people from getting their new books.

More people browsimg through the books at each booth.

It doesn't look it, but this sea of humanity was actually a very long and winding orderly line to the checkout counters at the Fully Booked booth. Fully Booked is the country's largest and most popular bookstore chain.

And yes I was in that line, right behind the guy with the orange backpack.

I originally had no plans to be there, but I DID sign up for Acquisitions and Collection Development class as part of my MLIS, so off I went and, because I am old, all the booksellers mistook me for a tenured LIS professor/librarian and kept pushing business cards, catalogs and order slips at me 2/

I did my required rounds, which played merry hell on my back and knees, but afterwards I had time to meet up with friends running their own booths, and lose a spectacular amount of money on books I didn't really need but mostly wanted 😆

From top to bottom:

Two books by Seishi Yokomizo: The Honjin Murders, and Death on Gokumon Island, purchased from Fully Booked;

Memoirs of an Art Forger: A Novel, by Julian Tongson, Jr., purchased from Ateneo de Manila University Press;

Characters: Essays by Caroline Hau, also from Ateneo; and

Four books from the University of the Philippines Press:

Vantage Point: The Sixth Estate and Other Discoveries from the late celebrated journalist (and my former Journalism 101 professor) Luis Teodoro;

Two volumes of Leopoldo Yabes's compilations of Philippine Short Stories in English, from 1920 to 1949; and

An Embarrassment of Riches, a novel by Charlson Ong.
