When my vegan partner was in North Shore Hospital for emergency surgery the meals were a joke: dairy yoghurt and a rock hard kiwifruit for breakfast with no way of cutting the fruit open. I resorted to bringing him meals. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/hospital-...

I still couldn’t believe when my son was in NICU, the hospital didn’t provide meals for me. That’s because they said they only provide meals for the patients… My argument that I provided those didn’t seem to matter 🙃 It was Little Miracles Trust and Ronald McDonald House that ended up feeding me!

When my 14 year old was in Starship the lunchtime salad roll was bread with marg, a single leaf of lettuce and 1 round of cucumber. Meals were small and 14 year olds - even ones recovering from accidents - eat a tonne. Luckily there were so many uneaten meals he could have double.
