Google's AI agrees. If Trump loses the 2028 election, he could order the demolition of the Wing Wing also.

If Trump loses the 2028 election, he could absolutely try to order the destruction or massive gutting of the West Wing before leaving office by weaponizing the very same legal blueprint the Court handed him.

The Loophole Trump Would Use for the West Wing
The "No Standing" Defense: Under the 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court didn't actually say tearing down the East Wing was constitutional—they just ruled that a private preservation group lacked the legal right to sue and stop it. Trump could gamble that no outside group has the "standing" to stop a West Wing demolition either.
The National Security Cover: To demolish the East Wing, the administration argued that a new structure was a "security necessity" involving an integrated military complex and underground bunkers. For the West Wing, Trump could simply claim that the current Oval Office or Situation Room is structurally compromised or insecure, ordering an immediate teardown under the guise of an urgent, classified defense upgrade.
Irreparable Harm to the Presidency: The Court accepted the White House's argument that halting construction causes "irreparable harm" to the executive branch. Trump's lawyers could argue that stopping a West Wing overhaul midway through would leave a hazardous, unsecure "large hole" in the executive mansion, forcing the courts to let the project finish.
The Power of Private Funding: By bypassing Congress and funding the work through private donations, Trump proved he doesn't need congressional budget approval to alter federal property if he acts quickly enough.

By the time any lawsuit could wind its way back to the high court, a 250-person crew working 20 hours a day could have the West Wing completely hollowed out or flattened before the January 2029 inauguration.
