Far in the future, far across the galaxy... It's was a tall order to cram a portion of space opera epic The Five Star Stories into a single 66 minute OVA (Sunrise, 1989). Urusei Yatsura's Kazuo Yamazaki gave it his best though, bringing to life from manga pages this world of mysticism and mecha.

A still from the bluray release, with a busy Phantasy Star IV-alike city scene with Ladioss Sop, a femme-y guy with long chestnut blonde hair resting casually resting on a floating bulbous bike with middle eastern-ey citizens around him

A pristine blue sky and clouds, with beams of light cast down the Greek mythology inspired scene of extravagant white robed figures in a line and a young woman approaching them.

A bulky mecha in closeup with pilots disembarking

One of my favourite shots from the OVA, a tall techie tower structure in a barren desert wasteland, with a wooden sign pointing in all directions close to the camera. All beneath a burnt orange-yellow-blue cloudy sky.

Couldn't help but notice this "Mr. BAD GAY" sign

It's a sign that reads Mr. BAD GAY. Cropped from the first image in the above post.
