Both Plato and Aristotle pointed to the over emphasis on wealth in ancient Carthage as a as a public weakness. Carthage was Rome’s major rival until Rome wiped it off the map. Sadly, the U.S., like Carthage, seems to be putting all of its eggs in one basket, the wealth basket.

Absolutely. To put the full burden of disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation on the states is insane. Most states are reliant on FEMA grant funding to support nearly all their disaster programs. I picked either a good or a terrible time to leave my Emergency Management career.

All these cuts and eliminations of jobs are being done so the billionaires can reap the benefits. After what happened in Texas on July 4th should be a lesson learned that we need to bolster and improve these necessary fixes to our broken emergency services systems for every state.
