I think they do know what they're doing, and it's authoritarianism. I also think it's becoming more dangerous to simply label them as incompetent when they keep showing us that they're malicious.

They don’t know what they are doing and don’t care. It’s not good governance they are after, it’s populist politics - which it seems they discard as soon as they wring people out of their money and attention.
