Simpson's whirligigs are designed to move in the wind and they moved in the wind that day. They are also a bit noisy, something not recorded in still photography.
Vollis Simpson (1919 – 2013) made the kinetic sculptures out of recycled materials, which included scrapped street signs. He named them whirligigs. About 30 of them are collected in this park. Others can be found in various places in Wilson and other places.
