Hooray! I've been invited by work to test logging into my network account, but by not using an MFA method that I don't use already. I can expect a 100% success rate on this trial!

Email message from work:

Hi all,

As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening security across our environment, you have been selected to participate in a small pilot group focused on improving our Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods.

What’s changing?
Over the coming weeks, we will be removing SMS (text message) as an MFA option for your account.

You will continue using the Microsoft Authenticator app, which you already have set up and ready to use.

Why are we doing this?
While SMS has been widely used, it is no longer considered a strong authentication method due to risks such as:

SIM swapping and phone number hijacking
Interception of messages
Dependence on mobile network availability
Moving to app-based authentication helps us:

Reduce account takeover risk
Improve resilience and reliability
Align with modern security best practices
