The fact that it's so close to the election matters not at all to the conservatives on the court. Their interpretation of the Purcell principle is that election changes can't be made close to an election, unless they help Republicans, in which case the changes MUST be made.

The Purcell rule is the same as the McConnell Supreme Court nomination rule. It’s not too close to an election if Republicans stand to benefit.

Closer than most people know. Federal law dictates that ballots for overseas citizens (military etc) who are entitled to vote by mail must be mailed out no later than 45 days before election day. That's next Saturday.
