What we've also seen is a growing number of apps that join the call in the background, meaning the rando bot isn't visible or asking to join. Granola is one of the better-known ones. Wispr Flow launched a direct competitor, Notetaker, today. Wispr Flow included an interesting note in its FAQs

Question: Do I need to get user consent?
Answer: Notetaker captures audio locally on your device rather than joining calls as a visible bot, so participants may not receive an automatic notification that transcription is taking place. You are responsible for informing everyone before you begin.

Recording and consent laws vary by state and country. If you're unsure what rules apply, seek legal advice.

On July 30, a proposed class action was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Granola. The accusation is that Granola records conversations without telling participants and is set by default to use those recordings to train its AI.

The filing is very similar to another case, Brewer v. Otter.ai. While the Wispr Flow's FAQ above shows the vendor is aware of the potential legal ramifications of recording, it's trying to put the onus on the user and remove itself from implications.
