This post was brought to you by nearly being stranded in Dublin because the bus Éireann service I usually get was replaced by a private operator who will not put replacement services on if a bus is fully booked. It's so cool. It's great. We're such a stupid fucking country, I swear.

Also, Irish small towns: we’re dying, shops closed up, young people leaving, derelict houses along main streets, pubs closed, shops boarded up, no WiFi, no local banks Govt: let’s have more one off housing miles away, with no services, or public transport, but let’s put our houses there

Me: I’ll go Cork (Irelands second city) to Rosslare (second port) by public transport. Irish govt, feck that you will. Restore rail route for passenger trains, no fecking way!! Dublin brain + car brain = useless fecking FF/FG government..

Where I live the nearest bus stop is 3 miles away. It's impossible to walk to thanks to a lack of footpaths. And I'm 5 miles from the center of Cork.

I remember being in Italy years ago travelling by bus between tiny villages in Umbria - they had small 10 seater buses running on short circular routes between towns. You hopped from loop to loop to get to your destinations. They ran on 10 or 15 minute intervals. Very little planning on my part … /
