#NationalIllustrationDay celebrates illustrated pictures as well as the people who make and create them. One of the stories our Curating Visibility fellow, Karl, explored for At the End of History exhibition was the life and work of Victorian illustrator and author Anne Pratt (1806-1893).

An oil portrait of Anne Pratt sitting with an open book of botanical illustrations. She has dark brown hair tied back and is wearing a white dress.

A colour photo of the display in the At the End of History exhibition, featuring two of Anne Pratt's books. Infront of the books are dried flowers laid carefully on paper. To the left of the books is a Victorian drawing box with drawing implements. In the background there is a graffitied exhibition panel on the Victorian period.

A copy of the book 'Wild flowers of the year' by Anne Pratt. The book is open on a page of coloured botanical illustrations. This book is perched on another book by Anne Pratt titled 'Things of the Sea Coast'

At the End of History is an interactive experience that looks at objects and stories of disability. Anne Pratt was a popular author and illustrator in her time and published a prolific number of botanical works. Due to poor health, Anne was often kept indoors. #IllustrationDay

Her parents and family were supportive, paying for schooling when it was not compulsory and she was encouraged with drawing and botany. Her siblings would gather specimens for her to draw when she could not get out.
