These are all bottom trawlers operating in AoNZ at the moment. Drastically different target species, areas of operation and impacts.

104m BATM trawler targeting bottom and midwater species such as Jack mackerel, squid, hoki, southern blue whiting and barracouta.

A 65.7m deep water bottom trawler targeting orange roughy, hoki, oreo dory, squid, and southern blue whiting.

A 16.8m inshore bottom trawler targeting squid, hoki, red cod, gurnard, tarakihi.

An 11m inshore bottom trawler targeting gurnard, snapper, trevally, and flatfish.

A bottom trawler on the left, a mid-water trawler on the right.

A bottom trawler ban would ban the 11m vessel on the left but still allow the 130m vessel on the right. One is a bottom trawler and one is a mid-water trawler.
