The meeting happening during commute hours, in which the driver is half-present, could have been an email. If the driver's participation was so important, it could have been scheduled during a time they could give it their full attention — or they could have just stayed home to take the call.

But then we get into the MULTIPLE layers of presentee-ism on display. First, it's not enough to have the driver join over audio. They need to be camera-on, because "presence" is valued over actual meaningful contribution. But second - they're in the car because of "return to office."

Remote workers are 40% more productive than those same workers in the office. And most of us spend those in-office days on Zoom ANYWAY, talking to people in other offices. But it makes managers sad that they can't physically see their peasants toiling in the fields, so out you go!
