I'm actually not against the "toilet is a technology" argument because we can take it all the way back to "language is a technology" and language is one of the least neutral things there is. But the tech bros aren't talking about *the use* of technology, just evoking lab coats and safety glasses.

The tendency to evoke specific aesthetics as a way to whitewash what they are actually doing is shared between tech and a certain political movement but let's not go there for now. Notably, chief hype artists Sam Altman and Elon Musk loooove to evoke not just tech but *science* specifically.

They are just fear demagogues… Altman built up AI by claiming it would kill us all (then why are you doing it?). And Elon says we gotta get to Mars or we are doomed.
