This is a brick pebble that's been softened by rolling around in the sea awhile. You might also find yellow or red ochre, softer muddy pieces of shale, marls, & chalks you could do this with - depends where you are. Somebody's dog came to say hi at the end 😂 We left the pebbles on the beach...

Alt for the video: At the beach, pebbles & shells atop a fence post. A brick pebble is rubbed against a harder flint with some seawater to make a crude red paint, which is collected in a clam shell. A piece of plant debris is picked up & used to paint the red colour onto a white pebble. Because:

There are some beaches in the UK (tho not as many as people think) that are covered by protection orders so you can't collect pebbles or natural resources. Brick pebbles & seaglass count as human-made litter, so you can still collect them there. But always be considerate of the local environment...
