24. Cinnabar moth Caught up! Here's an illustration of one of my favourite moths (tho I admittedly have a whole fkn lot of favourite moths. 😂) & Bonus photo + my tattoo of the same, handpoked by Belle at LD Tattoos in Newbury 💖 #SciArt #ArtAdventCalendar

A colour pencil drawing of a boldly marked cinnabar moth and its equally sassy caterpillar. The moth has black forewings with chonky red bar and dot markings, and very red hindwings. The caterpillar is yellow and black striped, and is munching on the flowers of its ragwort host plant. The species is labelled 'Cinnabar moth, Tyria jacobaeae.' & Why some fucking people just put that Latin name and no bloody description of the actual life form in their alt text I'll never chuffing know.

Photo of a real cinnabar moth adult and caterpillar, to compare to the drawing. The adult has striking red and black wings, and I'm holding it on a small jar lid. It's held next to the stripey yellow and black caterpillar which is munching on a big frilly ragwort plant.

A look at my tattoos of an adult cinnabar moth with it's striped forewings single tone hindwings, a boldly striped cinnabar caterpillar, part of a lime hawkmoth wing with lighter and darker patches, and a portrait of the barred yellow moth from the photo up-thread. They're all black and grey handpoked, so the shading is a pattern of closely made dots.

23. Magpie inkcap You can't not love inkcaps, they're too fascinating to watch turning to gloop. Used to see these growing out of mulch sometimes. If I remember rightly, another artist painted an inkcap with it's own ink - @bernoid.bsky.social maybe? #SciArt #ArtAdventCalendar

I've seen one of these in Oregon, they use them to control an invasive weed.
