Even with pivotal elections looming this year, that lingering presence is barely mentioned

Still there? No leaves to rake or snow to shovel. It’s time to go home

I was born in raised in Washington DC and inner suburbs. I worked for the federal government for 22 years in Foggy Bottom. Prior to Trump DC was policed by local and federal agencies. Bringing in the National Guard is akin to the Stasi hanging around street corners in East Berlin. Pure Propaganda.

such a colossally stupid waste of money. paying hundreds of millions of dollars to have these dipshits roam around doing nothing, staring at their phones and laying mulch bc conservatives are scared of their own shadows

weird that the USA has soldiers patrolling in cities. There must be a very serious thing that necessitates this show of force? Terrorists?

Normalizing a military presence. It's all about normalizing military presence around America. This is b*******.

The National Guard was all over the Navy Yard when the Nationals are playing at home. The DC police were there as well. We only need the police who are trained in policing and not warfare.

Was in DC on a spring break trip with my family recently and saw a few NG soldiers standing around in a Metro station, doing nothing and looking completely bored. Great use of taxpayer dollars.

I honestly forgot the National Guard was still in DC. I assumed Trump had quietly taco’ed out.

He certainly likes to spend and waste our money while he puts more money in his pockets. I am so tired of the powers that just sit there blinking their eyes slowly while he disables America piece by piece. He's destroyed health, finance and any sort of power and strength we had in the world. Gone!

2 possible up-sides to the deployment? Push for DC statehood may get more serious + Guard may go back home and tell people DC isn't quite the dangerous sh*thole they've been led to believe it is. But, seriously - it's dangerous for people to get used to seeing armed military on the street.

GOP Alphas needs military nannies to protect them in the streets of DC. Pure clownery. #WasteFraudAbuse
