China is the preponderant new exportweltmeister. The trade surplus of Europe, Germany, and Japan are kids game in comparison to China's staggering numbers. One hopes that team Trump one day understands that Europe's interests are now aligned with their wish to engineer a global rebalancing. 5/x

The EU foreign policy community now wants to derisk from the US. But it'll be hard to work with China on trade - surplus blocs dont make for natural partners. China provides a supply glut, and siphons off demand, doesn't provide it. Eurozone industrial production ain't looking so hot. 6/x

The reality: Europe's China problem isn't going away, just cuz the Trump administration is pushing the transatlantic relationship to the brink. As Corriere notes, it's not getting better from here "the second shock from China to the heart of European industry has [in some ways] just begun." 7/x
