1) The results of Benjamin Natelsons two-day exercise study have been published. This work was supported by an NIH grant. They tested 58 ME/CFS patients and 25 matched controls but did not find any differences. There was no decline in exercise measures on the second test.

2) Natelson's group at the he Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai has been doing exercise studies in ME/CFS since the early 1990s. They received more than $2 million from an NIH grant (5R01 NS117638) to study the 2-day cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPETs) protocol in ME/CFS.

My delay is 30 (!) hours. And for a study like that, they only recruit people with mild symptoms. I was recruited for a study but couldn’t attend because “there’s no way to lie down and rest during the day.”

The study’s interpretation is highly contested and likely broader than the data support. It may narrow post-exertional malaise (PEM) to only what CPET can measure, mainly cardiopulmonary impairment. The study failed to replicate earlier findings of Day-2 abnormalities, but PEM can occur
