I fully believe that this is Wayne's culture, because it's recognizably lower class white culture of the kind that JD Vance correctly excoriated in Hillbilly Elegy. However, it's not American culture or even PMC white culture. It's just hick culture.

The literal “point” of Barry Levinson’s “The Natural” was “if you rely only on talent, you’ll fail.” Anyone who does anything well for money knows talent isn’t enough. That he uses professional baseball as an example is indicative of his deep misunderstanding of the role of hard work and luck.

Hard work & luck are vital. Ask any famous movie actor & they’ll talk about the “amazing actors” they met in class that are still waiting tables. Mickey Mantel could have been the greatest ball player ever with some hard work. This is just a stupid take from someone who doesn’t know how thinks work
