John Fenster @mountmccabe.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Does anyone have ballet recommendations (watching/attending)? Or advice on how to proceed? I've seen little other than as part of operas or similar, and it very much feels like a language I don't speak. I have various ways to stream things, and, like the NYCB spring season is still going, etc 630 6
Eliiiiise @eliiiiise.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I saw Play at Opéra de Paris and it was great. Le Parc is also a classic. There is plenty to watch on Paris Opéra Play 010 1
Marissa Skull-Yorick 💀 @marissaskud.bsky.social · 07/05/2026no real recommendations but I’m also a theater/opera person (highly verbal) trying to become a dance person! Mostly I’ve stuck to story ballets, as more accessible. Honestly the best thing has been having a friend who ushers at the ballet & can get me free tix so I can explore without $$ pressure. 020 2
y2000k @y2000k.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I had a Boston ballet subscription for a number of years in the past. I didn't mind the story ballets (swan lake, Giselle, Coppelia, Cinderella) but having seen them once I was like that's enough (I don't fangirl ballet principals). 1/ 110 1
Aksel Tollåli @akseltoll.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I've been spending the past three years trying to get into contemporary dance (as opposed to contemporary ballet), and I think the main thing is just to watch a lot and see what you like. I'm not big on the classic, repertoire ballets, but I really enjoy a lot of the newer things I've seen. 130 3
Susie @bassoosie.bsky.social · 08/05/2026If you can find more of this performance, this is my favorite Nutcracker by far. The ballerina here in moves like liquid, and the snake is a much more imaginative take on the Arabian dance than the usual harem garb. The production includes giant pig heads IIRC. youtu.be/J6_loD6Vrms?...youtu.beSnake DanceYouTube video by moniquemckennon1 100 1
