These two… Magnifique Histoire de Manon by Amandine Albisson and Guillaume Diop

Eliiiiise @eliiiiise.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I’m at Palais Garnier for L’histoire de Manon. I don’t really like ballet but Guillaume Diop is dancing and there’s always Massenet’s music. I’ll just spend my time anticipating the moment someone starts singing and never getting it.

Verbatim from protesting high school kids in France : we have too many lessons, there is too much competition, our mental health is not considered enough. Children, the world you’re going to live in is going to be a very tough and violent place. If you can’t survive school how will you manage ?

★★★★ PARSIFAL #RoyalOpera - Unholy rituals, as usual, but a hero's life compels: #StanislasdeBarbeyrac's protagonist matches #JakubHrůša's conducting for intensity, while #EvgenyTitov's production intrigues @davidnice.bsky.social www.theartsdesk.com/parsifal-roy...

We tried that in France many years ago. 35h week. Cost us our productivity and now we’re almost bankrupt. Plus a lot of people work days and not hours a week so… Personally my week is 45 to 50 hours anyway.

I don’t agree. School meals should be free for kids whose parents can’t aford it, and those who can should pay to fund the others. That’s how it’s done in France and it works.

What a surprise. He doesn’t care about people, why would he care about trees? The real question is: why do Americans put up with that without protesting ? In France we would already have a ZAD there (zone à défendre)…

I don’t understand why some many Americans choose the name ‘Taylor’ (for both girls and boys too). It literally means ´tailleur’. Why would anyone want to call their kid ´tailleur’? It wouldn’t come to anyone’s mind to call their kid ´Plummer’ would it? Is there something cultural I’m missing?

Thoughts about the Salzburg Carmen. I actually like Asmik much more than I thought I would, and her French sounds quite correct. Tetelman has beautiful high notes but you can’t hear the low ones. Orchestra sounds fabulous. Staging sucks.
