Kathy O'Donnell @kathyodonnell.bsky.social · 28/06/2026Lovely moment this morning for my mum, who is 95 and in the final stage of dementia, who for the first time in years asked for music and we listened together to Matt Monro. For a long time her illness and deafness has taken away her pleasure in music. Today, it relented. 2144689252 0
Kathy O'Donnell @kathyodonnell.bsky.social · 28/06/2026So many moving messages, much kindness and love. So many are or have been carers. My mum speaks very little now, can't stand, walk or sit up. Grumpy Middle Aged White Guy @cargo2024.bsky.social · 28/06/20261/2: When my dad reached the point of being none verbal and he didn’t know who any of us were, I’d play him the theme tune to Steptoe & Son and he’d start smiling. Those little smiles always reminded me that he was still in there, which was nice because he generally just looked terrified. 2210 0

alicelichtenstein.bsky.social @alicelichtenstein.bsky.social · 29/06/2026My mom's playlist is Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. She is 97 and also in late stage of dementia. She still joins in. It's amazing. 120 0
Aggy X @aggyoverdrive.bsky.social · 28/06/2026I've heard of cases of dementia patients who have become non-verbal, who start singing along to music from their youth days. Music is powerful, because it taps into more than just our memory. It taps into emotions. 010 0
