This is called the "mow-saic" approach and gives various meadow wildlife species -- from invertebrates to small mammals like field mice -- access to the type of habitat they need. If you cut it all at once, it's all gone. Great to see them taking this approach. We're using it now on our land, too.
Interesting to see how @durhamwildlife.bsky.social are managing one of the best grasslands in the Tees Valley (a LWS) and now one of their Nature Reserves. They have cut short, cut a bit longer and left islands of uncut amongst the cut areas. The other half of the site will be cut next year
