Chatted about my first proper gay experience with friends and how it was with a guy who was probably the closest to being my boyfriend until he said that romantic stuff wasn't for him. I wrote this #poem Mussels about the one night and day we spent together in his town. #poetry #writing #romance

It's the scent of you that lingered
On the train that dragged me home:
Tobacco, smoke and spices;
Poison, but
I'd breathe it all again.

The scent of you,
The taste of you,
The way our limbs brushed in the night
And how natural
And just
And right it all seemed.
I wanted to freeze the moment,
To hold you in my arms forever,
For that long, long night
To stretch

Into eternity.

And after, on the beach,
When I longed to hold your hand,
But didn't for discretion's sake -
For your sake -
I searched for shells
To take and keep:

Blue inside, like the sea between us,
Half for you
And half of me.
