A great list, including some I wasn’t aware of. I would add Colin McInnes, Absolute Beginners; Margery Allingham, The Tiger in the Smoke; Sam Selvon, Lonely Londoners. And Mrs Dalloway, of course.

Wonderful list. I'd have to add Penelope Fitzgerald's Offshore and Human Voices but that's because she's my favorite writer.

A great list. I’d add some more Spark (The Ballad of Peckham Rye) and some Iris Murdoch (Under the Net and A Fairly Honourable Defeat spring to mind).

Love lots of these. Twenty Thousand Streets was my Patrick Hamilton gateway, and what I always think of when I think of London-based books - also Barbara Vine and Asta’s Book. ☺️

i've been meaning to read The Girl of Slender Means. i highly recommend Lucky Jim -- though not a London novel (set in a fictional Cambridge/Oxford), it is quintessentially English.

This is a really interesting list, prompting me to wonder what my Top 10 would be. I know without thinking that Westwood by Stella Gibbons, London Belongs To Me by Norman Collins and An Episode of Sparrows by Rumer Godden would definitely be on the list, but as to the remaining seven ... #BookSky💙📚
